More than likely you have heard that Thailand is a relatively inexpensive place to go for a holiday. But seriously, could you have ever imagined that it is possible to rent the equivalent of a 4-star hotel room for less than $1,000 a month. After all, that is what a night or two would run in New York, London, or Paris.
Well it is, and if you just keep reading we are going to explain exactly how to accomplish it. Before we get into the details though, we want to warn you that our techniques should NOT be utilized over the internet until at the very least, you have visited the country, and developed a few trusted contacts.

In all of the major cities like Bangkok, Phuket, or Pattaya, and most of the smaller ones that have an Expat community, there are individual condominiums that can be rented directly from the owner of the unit. Most of these units have been totally renovated based on the owner’s particular taste.
Some of the units will have marble floors, full kitchens with granite countertops, flat screen TV’s with stereo surround sound, washing machines, large balconies, and decorator furniture. If you happen to be interested in vacationing in a city that is close to the ocean, many of them are located right on it, and provide spectacular sea views that seem to go on forever.
The typical size of a single unit that is comparable to a studio apartment, is anywhere from 35 to 50 square meters, which is much larger than a standard hotel room. It is also possible to rent double units for a little bit more, which are comparable to a one bedroom apartment.
Most of the buildings that these condominiums are located in are fairly large, and have many businesses located on the bottom floor which makes staying in them very convenient. Some of the establishments you will find in them are laundries, restaurants, hair salons, convenience stores, internet shops, and massage studios.
A few of the condos also supply cable or satellite TV along with internet access. Besides the rental rate, you will also be required to pay the electric and water bill for the duration of your stay. In most cases, this should not be more than 3,000 Baht ($100 US) a month if you turn everything off when you leave the condo. If you do not use your air conditioner too much, you can expect your bill to be much less.
If you are one of those that does not like to clean up maids can be hired from either the company that runs the building itself, or from one of the shops on the ground floor, for approximately 200 Baht ($7 US) per cleaning.
The high season in Thailand runs from October to March, and during this time of the year the rental rates are at their peak. In addition, since many vacationers regular visit the country, many of the prime units will be already rented out.
If you plan on staying in a single location for six months to a year, it is possible to negotiate a long term contract at a deeply discounted price. Depending on the city the condo is located in, the quality of the renovation, the views the unit provides, the buildings décor and upkeep, and the size of the condo, the prices range anywhere from 15,000 to 25,000 Baht ($500 to $833 US) per month for a single unit.
Most of them will want you to put down a fully refundable deposit as a guarantee against any damage that might happen to the condo or to the furniture. The vast majority of the condo owners and real estate agents are honest and your deposit will be returned if you do not destruct anything. Unfortunately, not all of them are, and some of them will try and keep your deposit.
The best way to go about finding these spectacular deals is to first decide on which city you plan on vacationing in. Next, you want to book yourself a few nights in a hotel over the internet. After that is completed and you arrive at your destination, it is time to start the search.
You will want to travel around the city and determine exactly where you would like to be located. Some people like the center of the city, where all the action is, while other people like the suburbs, since it is nice and quiet.
Once you know where you want to be situated, it is time to start researching the buildings themselves. In most of the buildings there will be a bulletin board in the lobby where the individual owners will advertise their condos for rent. In addition, the larger buildings usually have real estate offices in them that offer units in the building for rent.
Of course, you will almost always be able to get the best deal when you are dealing with the owner of the unit as opposed to the real estate agent. After you find a building that you like, you will want to start viewing the units. When you find one that meets your needs, the negotiations will commence.
The standard discount that you should be able to achieve off the price that was advertised, will be anywhere between 10 to 20 percent. Once you have worked out the deal, you will be all ready to move into and start enjoying the 4-star condo that you acquired at a ridiculously low price.
If everything goes according to plan, you will make quite a few new friends, develop a trusted business relationship with either a real estate agent or condo owner, and have enjoyed the vacation of a lifetime for much less than you ever thought possible. If it all sounds too good to be true, well it is NOT, and it is all up to you to execute everything that you have learned in order to take advantage of these outrageous deals.
