One of the most well known cities in Australia is Melbourne. It is the second largest city in Australia, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Located on a coastal plain off Port Phillip Bay, this city is the capital of the state of Victoria. Founded in 1835, it now is home to a population of approximately 4 million people. It is no surprise why Melbourne is the home to a large amount of people, as Melbourne has been crowned one of the top 3 most liveable cities in the world, as well as one of the world's top 20 Global Innovation Cities.

Getting around Melbourne is quite easy. This city was truly built with a vision, as its famous transit system is efficient and easy to navigate. It is also the home to the largest tram network in the world. The weather in Melbourne is known by Australians as having '4 seasons in 1 day'. This changeable weather can be rather rapid, such as it is being raining and then it clearing so there is sunny weather, and back again. This cycle can occur in a space of just a few minutes, and can be repeated throughout the day.

Melbourne is the arts centre of Australia. It is filled with everything “cultural”, from Victorian era houses to museums and art galleries. However, this is not to say that Melbourne is one for “oldies”, as you will find a wonderful clash of both the old and the new. It is also the fashion capital of Australia, with many loved fashion districts and factory warehouse outlets in the city.

There are literally thousands of restaurants to taste both local and international cuisine. For the more laid back visitor, the annual Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is the largest in the southern hemisphere and is great for the whole family.
