Nightlife & Entertainment in London

As the sun goes down, the night rejuvenates London city with its incredible nightlife. There is plenty of things to do here, from visiting historic pubs, gambling at the casino, enjoying live music, or singing and dancing the night away. The most popular nightlife areas in London include the West End, Soho, Downtown, Chelsea, Camden, Hoxton, and Brixton.

It is needless to say that the West End is synonymous with the performing arts throughout the world. There are so many theatres in the West End which have performances to suit anybody's mood and taste, such as musicals, comedy shows, drama, and Shakespearian plays. It is even bigger than Broadway in New York City! Although it is advisable to buy tickets in advance, you can also buy last minute tickets at Leicester Square. After this, why not head over to bar Rumba? This is open every day from 5 pm until late, and offers a diversity of music including Funk, Latin, Drum n Bass, House music, Jazz, and R&B. There are also regular bands that play live at bar Rumba. For something a bit more adult, the Windmill International is an upscale Gentleman's Club open from Monday to Saturday. This Gentleman's Club offers table-side dancing. There are also many great restaurants at the West End.

Soho comes alive with a large variety of activities. They say that 3 hearty laughs keep you healthy, so why not head down to the many comedy clubs in Soho? These clubs include the Comedy Carnival at the Grand which features both award winning international and local comedians weekly. The Comedy Tree is another popular club that is known for its intimate atmosphere and top notch shows. Other than this, clubs include The Comedy Club, The Comedy Store, The Funny Side... of Covent Garden, and The Laughing Horse. After having a great laugh, you can head over to Electric Dreams which specialises in new wave, 80's synthpop, industiral goth music. Alternatively, there are a couple of excellent jazz clubs around such as PizzaExpress and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Other than this, Soho also offers delicious global cuisine, pubs, great cafes along Dean Street, and more.

Downtown London is always a popular nightlife destination. Here, you can find almost anything under the moon that is to your fancy, whether it’s a pub or bar, live music, adult entertainment, cabaret, and more. For adult entertainment, Sophisticats on Marylebone Lane is always a popular choice. There are many bars and pubs here, including the sports bar, The Loose Cannon, as well as others such as Shanghai Blues, Kasturi, Tamari, Ozu, and more. For cabaret, head down to Talk of London. There are many great places to dance the night away including Movida's and Fluid. For live music, the best jazz/blues club is Montunos and the best rock venue is Peter Parker's Rock 'n' Roll Club.

Chelsea's nightlife revolves more around clubs and bars. The 606 Club is considered to be one of the best jazz clubs in the country, and features live jazz in an intimate setting nightly. Open for over 30 years, this jazz club restaurant is still a popular hangout with a great vibe. There are informal jam sessions for budding virtuousos, British jazz, singing, and more. A fantastic traditional 3-storey British pub is The Builders Arms. This quaint pub has a changing daily menu as well as great pints of beer.

Although Camden is famous for its markets, it does not mean that this place which is popular with students is boring during the night. There is a wide variety of cheap places to chill out, which is suitable for both backpackers and students. Hip and happening nightclubs that have really cashed in on this niche include The Electric Ballroom, Camden Palace, WKD's, The Laurel Tree, and The Underground. What would be a good student area without a pub? Popular pubs include The Good Mixer which was actually where the British band, Blur, hung out. Other than this, The World's End is a popular meeting place and the Irish Pub, Liberty's, is a great place to enjoy a bit of craic. Other than this, there are lots of cheap eats, regular night buses, cafes, and more in the bustling part of London.

Hoxton has a smaller nightlife scene – but that does not mean it is boring at all! There are many fantastic bars down in Hoxton, which will suit all tastes. If you are really on a tight budget, head over to Catch, which has no cover charge. As a result, it is usually crowded but there are great nights to bad here with music such as classic rock, funk, hip hop, electronica, and more. In addition, there are cheap drinks to be had!

For something a bit retro, the 50's style Bar Bohemia is a quirky little bar. You do have to book ahead, but the cocktails are truly amazing. Going a bit back further into time, Charlie Wright's International Bar is an old world, intimate jazz bar. There are jam sessions on Mondays, and on the weekend it gets more happening so it is a true jazz lovers’ delight. For something a bit more hip, Electricity Showrooms has an old world type pub menu with great beers and regular pub games like darts.

Just 15 minutes away from Central London and Oxford Circus is Brixton. This village is known to be party central, and plays host to the best nightlife in all of London. For an authentic experience, Brixton Academy is the best place to be. This is a place where you can catch both local and international music stars, and is one of the coolest partying and drinking spots in the city.

Another great party place is Plan B, which is a DJ Bar. Plan B attracts famous headliners such as The Street, Basement Jaxx, and Norman Jay. Close by is The Fridge, which is a true icon of Brixton. Babalou and Mass are 2 party venues that are located within a church that has been converted to a couple of night clubs.

What would be a great night without a beer or two? This was the first place in England to have an all-night liquor licensing. The most famous watering hole in the area is The Prince. Below The Prince is Dex, which has an exclusive members bar. If you prefer cocktails, the Brixton Bar and Grill is a hidden gem which is a restaurant and cocktail bar that opens until late.
